Google has been sending out notices emphasizing that it’s encountering issues with mobile indexing. Also in that notice is warning that the search giant will move entirely to mobile-first indexing within the year. If you have a website, it’s important to pay close attention to the news as this could potentially impact your search engine rankings significantly if you aren’t prepared.
Google began its transition towards putting mobile first back in 2016. By the end of 2018, half of all website results were those that were mobile-friendly. Mobile indexing is just another way of saying that Google will examine your website as if it were being accessed by a browser on a mobile device and will, therefore, use that version of the website to rank it.
No matter what type of business you’re in or even if your website is personal, if Google is finding issues with the mobile version of your website, now is the time to make sure everything is working properly and is “Google approved”. If you have yet to make your website easily accessible on mobile devices, the clock is ticking.
